hi, my name is linda

I design, make paper goods, and live in Seattle. One Fine Dae shares the many lovely things that I adore. I'm also a fan of Polaroids, Scrabble, classic movies, vintage, and sailboats. And Charlie Brown is my goofy little companion and unofficial paper shredder.

I'm on Instagram, Flickr, Twitter, and Pinterest.

And also read emails. So say hello, I'd love to hear from you.

cities and wheels

Seattle Great Wheel and Pacific Park at Santa Monica Pier via Instagram.

. . . . .

I am such a sucker for Ferris wheels. There's something so nostalgic and wholesome about them, and they instantly remind me of hot and humid late summer evenings. I'm not sure why exactly, but it's the image and feeling I get whenever I encounter one.

This past summer, Seattle got its very own Great Wheel. I haven't had the chance to ride on it, but just seeing this ginormous circular structure plopped right on top of Pier 59 makes me feel so giddy and happy. It makes the city look complete.

And while I was in Orange County this past weekend with friends, I got to see another Ferris wheel at the the historic Santa Monica Pier. A vintage design that's both lovely and colorful.

Happy May Day everyone! How is the weather in your neck of the woods? Seattle's been on this wet-on-weekdays, dry-on-weekends pattern lately. I'm not complaining too much, but I'm looking forward to more consistent sunshine that's for sure.

I snapped these photos years ago (circa 2008), when I acquired my first DSLR. My old college campus has rows of cherry blossoms along The Quad, and every spring when the flowers bloom, it's one of the most prettiest sites on campus. (See more lovely shots of UW from Rachel here and here.)

Hi y'all. Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend.

As for me (and probably many other Seattleites alike), the most exciting thing that happened this last weekend was the game between the Seahawks and the Saints. I'm usually not one to watch football, but Saturday's game was one of the most exciting sporting events I've ever seen on TV. I was seriously screaming and jumping as Lynch bulldozed his way down the end zone.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Here's what you missed.

And even if you aren't a Seahawks fan, or don't care for football, you have to admit, that touchdown was pretty damn awesome. But if you need more convincing, how about seeing it set to the Super Mario Bros. tune?

I was chatting with the lovely Angie not too long ago, and we both agreed that we only enjoy winter in Seattle during the holidays. After all the hustle and bustle, the cold and wet weather just becomes gloomy and sad. (Sorry Seattle, but 'tis true ya know.) Therefore, we hope that summer weather will come super early this year, because we were jaded in 2010.

Speaking of summer (I know, winter just started Linda, what are you thinking?!), wouldn't lounging around on these gorgeous, handmade, vintage deckchairs and footstools by Gallant & Jones be awesome? I've never really cared too much for lawn/deckchairs before, but these guys just look so handsome, and they really make me miss warm weather.

And by early, I'm crossing my fingers for May-ish, because sometimes summer weather doesn't hit us until early/mid July.

*Gasp* Really?!

Yes, really.

Seattle got its first snow of the season today. It came while I was taking out the trash. And now, everything is lightly dusted in white.

A nice way to round out the weekend. Hope yours was a good one.

Today was the last day of summer, and a beautiful last day it was for us Seattleites.

I celebrated by getting frozen yogurt around 3:52 pm. That dreadful hour when time feels like a standstill.

Summer will be missed, but the transition into fall really is my favorite time of year.

modern typefaces for you + hey homie

A nice collection of fresh + modern typefaces compiled by Thinkstock. And they're all up for grabs! My personal favorites are Dark Moon, Museo Slab, Acid, and Quadranta.

I find it interesting that Metro bus drivers in Seattle acknowledge each other whenever they drive pass one another. I mean, there are as many taxi drivers as there are bus drivers in the city, but I rarely see them acknowledge each other, if at all, during passing. They mostly keep to themselves. But bus drivers? Oh boy, that's a different story. It's not your typical lets-be-polite-and-smile-because-we-share-the-same-profession kind of acknowledgment; it's full on hey-homie-hows-it-going-lets-hang-out-after-our-shifts-are-over kind of acknowledgment. And it's usually expressed in the form of honking, nodding followed by a peace sign, shouting, or my personal favorite, rolling down the window entirely in order to wave—you know, the way you would if you were trafficking an airplane down the runway. It makes me wonder if there's a clause in their contract that specifically tells them to say hi to nearby drivers like they're one of your best friends you haven't seen for years, because that would explain everything, ya know? Nevertheless, it's quite funny and often makes for an entertaining commute.

I wish I could easily spot designers walking pass me, and acknowledge them in similar fashion. But then again, I don't have a 50-foot bus to drive in to pull it off. Because if I'm making a complete fool of myself, what else am I going to use to shield myself from utter embarrassment and shame?

a day on bainbridge island

. . . . .

Saturday was gorgeous, 75-ish with clear, blue skies—the perfect day to be on the water. And so I took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island, my favorite place away from the city, just to get away for a day.

Bainbridge Island is this quaint little town, west of Seattle, where life moves a little slower. It's only 30 minutes by ferry, not too removed, but there's something about being on an island that makes me feel like I'm on some kind of vacation, worlds away from home. The town is sprinkled with cafes, eateries, an old-school barbershop (barber pole included), and cute boutiques, all centered around the town square with a gazebo to complete it all.

After browsing through the shops on Winslow (the main street that cuts through town), I grabbed a quick lunch, then made my way down to Eagle Harbor to watch the locals set sail. Along the way, I passed by Grace & Company Paperie and couldn't help but go inside. A cute little shop with wonderful paper goods and delicious smelling candles. How I walked away empty handed, I have no idea, but this just means I have to come back the next time I'm in town.

Down by the water, I spotted a family getting ready to leave harbor for a picnic. Other locals kept their boats docked, and soaked in the sun with drinks and company. Witnessing moments like these solidifies my dream of someday owning my own boat. I'll give her a good name, take her out to sea, and let her enjoy the water, while I enjoy everything else. Sounds absolutely de-lightful! And Bainbridge is no less. I love this charming town and its quaint atmosphere. It's the one place that I can get away, without really going away, and that's pretty much the best part.

I hope all you lovelies had a wonderful weekend.

052810_bokeh

A photo from last Sunday's failed bokeh-themed shoot with some friends due to mother nature's inability to cooperate. This was taken in the U-District right before I was heading home from dinner. Hopefully, my next attempt to try this boat bokeh will happen atop Kite Hill.

It's been a while since I've taken my DSLR out to play. It used to be quite frequent. But not so much lately...

So this is a note to myself to pick up a camera, of any kind, and take photos more often. Then share them.

Have a delightful 3-day weekend mydears!
